John Oliver has never shied away from poking fun at whoever his \u201cbusiness daddy\u201d<\/a> is at the moment, but on Sunday night, the HBO host lost his cool for just a moment after realizing he might have another one soon \u2014 one who is more likely to cave to pressure from the FCC.<\/p>\n

Oliver devoted almost the entirety of \u201cLast Week Tonight\u201d to defending fellow late night host Jimmy Kimmel this week, after the ABC host was suspended \u201cindefinitely\u201d for suggesting that Charlie Kirk\u2019s killer might\u2019ve been a member of the far-right. Oliver noted that he was one of the guests on Kimmel\u2019s show that night, and he didn\u2019t even register the comment at the time.<\/p>\n

The HBO host then reassured viewers that, as of right now, his own show is in a different situation, and one that he feels \u201cvery lucky\u201d to be in.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not on broadcast TV,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe\u2019re on cable, and our parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, doesn\u2019t own broadcast networks, meaning that we are much less susceptible to pressure from the FCC than, say, ABC\u2019s parent company Disney or CBS\u2019 parent company Paramount-Skydance<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is obviously very good news for us, and I really don\u2019t see why that situation should change anytime soon,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

Naturally, as soon as Oliver finished speaking, a news clip began playing, in which the anchor discussed a possible merger coming<\/a> between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount.<\/p>\n

\u201cF\u2013k s\u2013t!\u201d Oliver bellowed. \u201cF\u2013k f\u2013king s\u2013t! F\u2013king s\u2013t, f\u2013k- it! OK, it was fun while it lasted, guys! Whatever happens next, let me say now it has been the honor of my life to age like a haunted painting before your very eyes.\u201d <\/p>\n
