Pitcher Hill ties record after receiving call up from Royals<\/p>\n

Veteran pitcher Rich Hill has been called up to the Kansas City Royals, making him the oldest active player in the MLB.<\/p>\n

The Kansas City Royals<\/a> are expected to call up veteran southpaw Rich Hill<\/a> on Monday. Hill, 45, would become one of only five people over the age of 45 to play in the majors post-2010 (Jamie Moyer<\/a>, Omar Vizquel, Bartolo Colon, Tim Wakefield), and the first since 2018.<\/p>\n

Hill is expected to join the team Monday night as the Royals get set for a series against the Chicago Cubs<\/a>. Currently, the Royals have no starter listed for Tuesday’s game.<\/p>\n

Should Hill end up pitching for Kansas City, the Royals would be the 14th team he has played for in his career, tying Edwin Jackson<\/a> for the most teams played for in MLB<\/a> history. Jackson retired at 35 following the 2019 season after pitching for both the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> and Detroit Tigers<\/a> in his final season.<\/p>\n
