He has signed a contract with Spain\u2019s Joventut Badalona, according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.penya.com\/ca\/club\/noticies\/281-2025-2026\/4933-ricky-rubio-torna-a-somriure\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Penya.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2024\/01\/ricky-rubio-reportedly-agrees-to-buyout-with-cavaliers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ended his NBA career<\/a> in January 2024 and returned to his home country of Spain, where he finished that season with Barcelona. He didn\u2019t play for Barcelona this past season after taking a hiatus for mental health reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/06\/international-notes-rubio-abrines-flynn-anderson.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">indicated<\/a> in June after posting a thank-you message on social media that he was still deciding whether to play again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything is open. I might play again \u2013 why not? \u2013 or I might not, and that wouldn\u2019t be a bad idea either,\u201d\u00a0Rubio said.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s something I\u2019d like to consider in the near future. For now, I just wanted to say thank you and also see how it affects me as a person, and if it gives me energy to move in one direction or another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Playing for Joventut Badalona represents a full circle move. Rubio started his pro career with the organization in 2005 and remained there until he signed with Barcelona in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio was the fifth pick of the NBA draft in 2009 and came stateside two years later. He played for Minnesota, Utah, Phoenix and Cleveland over the course of 12 seasons, averaging 10.8 points and 7.4 assists in 698 career games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ricky Rubio isn\u2019t retiring after all.
