Cairns Taipans coach Adam Forde hopes Saturday\u2019s 37-point loss to South East Melbourne<\/a> is the wake-up call his side need ahead of this week\u2019s home-opener.<\/p>\n

During an interview at the Cairns Convention Centre on Monday, Forde explained how five players \u2018fell well short\u2019 of his expectations and only three \u2018played to their potential\u2019, while warning of job losses during a \u2018brutally honest\u2019 finger-pointing session.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf a plumber, a chef, a labourer don\u2019t do their job, they\u2019re going to lose their job and that\u2019s what these guys sometimes have to realise,\u201d Forde told the media.<\/p>\n

\u201cI shouldn’t have to tell someone who gets paid to do this job to perform in a certain manner.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a results driven industry, and what we did on the weekend was not good enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Forde went on to say while the team are emphasising accountability this week at training ahead of Friday\u2019s Round 2 clash with Brisbane, they won\u2019t be \u2018overcorrecting\u2019 just yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of the plan and preparation, maybe we underestimated some things which we should have put a little bit more attention to detail,\u201d the NBL23 Coach of the Year said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Cairns will be without star big man Sam Waardenburg (ankle) for the first state rivalry of the Hungry Jack\u2019s NBL26 season, but are hoping new import Andrew Andrews will line up for the squad soon.<\/p>\n
