But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/ufc-news\/382295\/dan-hooker-denies-turning-down-charles-oliveira-fight-his-brain-is-mashed-potatoes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as \u201cThe Hangman\u201d said<\/a> the first time the fight was offered to him, he\u2019s still recovering from a badly broken hand that required multiple surgeries and won\u2019t be ready to compete until November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Rather than try to build clout off a matchup he can\u2019t accept, Dan spent the weekend holding another sequel to the infamous 1-Minute Scraps event <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2025\/5\/25\/24436894\/more-insane-knockouts-emerge-from-dan-hookers-50k-1-min-scraps-backyard-brawl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he held in his back yard in May.<\/a> This time the event was held in a gym and featured 32 super heavyweights competing for a $50,000 prize. The full video from the event has already been posted up on YouTube by The Mac Life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The police in New Zealand aren\u2019t a huge fan of Hooker\u2019s 1-Minute Scraps series. Following the previous edition in his backyard, sensationalist news articles appeared claiming Hooker had gathered criminal elements from nine different gangs for an illegal human cockfight. Possibly as a mocking play on those articles, Hooker declared that this edition of 1-Minute Scraps was \u2018convicts only.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Hooker has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2025\/5\/28\/24438564\/dan-hooker-bashes-boxing-heads-calling-for-jail-over-backyard-fights-one-minute-scraps-new-zealand\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">insisted the events are legal<\/a> &#8212; if only because the country lacks laws on amateur MMA. These rules weren\u2019t exactly MMA either: closed fist strikes only, no elbows, no kicks, and an immediate stoppage once an opponent hits the ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cNo grabbing, no mucking around,\u201d Hooker declared before the fights started. \u201cWe\u2019re all here for the same reason: we like to fight and we like to throw punches.
