Reinier de Ridder returns to action in UFC Vancouver\u2019s main event on Oct. 18, 2025, taking on Brendan Allen<\/a> … a 185-pound showdown that would normally be met with a lot of positivity if it wasn\u2019t a replacement match-up for de Ridder originally facing Anthony \u201cFluffy\u201d Hernandez (more on that here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a big letdown \u2014 it was a shame,\u201d de Ridder told MMA Junkie<\/a> of Hernandez\u2019s withdrawal in a new interview. \u201cHe really has a cool skill set, \u2018Fluffy\u2019 has, and he came in with a lot of hype. So I was very sad he pulled out. And there were a couple of days I didn\u2019t expect anyone to step up at all to be honest.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody wanted to fight,\u201d he added. \u201cWe tried Costa, but Costa wanted on his own terms, so that didn\u2019t happen. I\u2019m very, very grateful that Brendan took the call.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCosta wanted it to be catchweight and only three rounds,\u201d de Ridder said. \u201cI think if you get a shot like that to fight for a main event, get another chance to come up in the rankings. I think you should just shut up and say yes, not put your own terms in there. F–k off, take the fight!\u201d<\/p>\n

Costa has been angling for a fight over the past weeks, and reportedly had a bout against Shara Magomedov in Qatar in the works before \u201cBullet\u201d withdrew to get nose surgery<\/a>. Fighting one month earlier in Vancouver was apparently too soon for \u201cBorrachinha\u201d to be confident in his gas tank for five rounds, so de Ridder versus Allen it is.<\/p>\n
