A former funeral director and hospital wardsman has admitted to a series of sexual attacks on women in Sydney in the early 90s, after a familial DNA link led to his arrest more than three decades on.<\/p>\n

Glenn Gary Cameron, now 61, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to 13 offences against eight women, including multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault at knife-point.<\/p>\n
Between 1991 and 1993, the culprit behind the attacks in Moore Park and the inner west became known in media reporting as the “Night Stalker” or “Moore Park Rapist”.<\/p>\n
But it wasn’t until February 2024 that Cameron was arrested as he returned from an international trip \u2014the result of a breakthrough in the case courtesy of modern DNA and fingerprint technologies being used to review historic sexual assault crimes.<\/p>\n
Cameron faced 36 charges in total.<\/p>\n
Lawyer enters guilty pleas<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, his lawyer, Mickaela Mate, entered pleas of guilty to 13 offences as Cameron appeared on an audio-visual link at Downing Centre Local Court from Long Bay prison.<\/p>\n
One of the women had dialled in to watch the development.<\/p>\n

Cameron rested his chin on his hands and listened quietly as each of the charges was checked.<\/p>\n
He pleaded guilty to 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault with a threat to inflict actual bodily harm with a weapon, attempted aggravated sexual assault and assault with an act of indecency.<\/p>\n
Fourteen other charges will be taken into account on sentence.<\/p>\n
Those charges include multiple counts of assault with an act of indecency, aggravated sexual assault and detaining a person for advantage.<\/p>\n
Nine charges were withdrawn; assault with an act of indecency, aggravated sexual assault, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, detaining for advantage, and two counts of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.<\/p>\n
Details from court documents<\/p>\n
Cameron was between the ages of 27 and 29 at the time of the crimes and was working as a funeral director.<\/p>\n
According to the agreed facts, he had previously joined the army for a short time before he went “off the rails” and had “a pretty big drug problem” including speed, cocaine and marijuana.<\/p>\n
The court documents reveal shocking details about the sexual attacks, much of it too graphic to publish.<\/p>\n
The women were typically approached by Cameron in areas around Sydney or near train stations before being led to Moore Park.<\/p>\n
He told several that he could offer them work as a cleaner or opportunities to be a model, and on some occasions asked to take photographs of them before producing a knife.<\/p>\n
According to the court documents, in one of the attacks in 1992, he told a woman: “Don’t cry, don’t make any noises, otherwise I will kill you”.<\/p>\n
Another woman who was assaulted in 1993 was told: “I don’t want to hurt you. I can make it fun for the two of us.”<\/p>\n
When he was confronted with the allegations, Cameron initial told authorities he “had a pretty rough past” but had “never done anything like that”.<\/p>\n
“My life has, has been one big f***-up since I was born, you know,” he is quoted in the court documents as telling police.<\/p>\n

Cameron asked police how many DNA links there were to him and police explained there were four.<\/p>\n
The breakthrough in the case came after a review in 2022.<\/p>\n
It was determined that four of the eight sexual assaults were linked by the same unknown male profile, the agreed facts say.<\/p>\n
A familial search on the unknown profile produced no results, but on a national DNA database there was a positive result and an expert said there was “strong support” for the hypothesis that that person was a relative of the unknown profile.<\/p>\n
By June 2023 Cameron, who was living in the Northern Territory, had been identified as a person of interest.<\/p>\n
Authorities became aware he was planning to travel to Bangkok via Sydney and undertook an operation at a hotel near Sydney International Airport.<\/p>\n
A fork and schooner glass used by Cameron were retrieved from the bar, the agreed facts say, along with discarded items from his hotel room.<\/p>\n
“Police then determined that the offender was now a suspect in the offences,” the court documents say.<\/p>\n
He was arrested when he returned from overseas.<\/p>\n
Cameron’s case will now move from the Local Court to the District Court for sentence.<\/p>\n
