SUDDENLY, three of Brad Jones Racing\u2019s four Supra seats for 2026 have names attached to them and Jaxon Evans<\/a> is still playing the waiting game.<\/p>\n

While Andr\u00e9 Heimgartner<\/a> always had another year to run on his contract, yesterday the Albury outfit confirmed the signature of Cameron Hill<\/a> \u2013 at Bryce Fullwood<\/a>\u2019s expense \u2013 and retention of Macauley Jones<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That just leaves the fourth slot at BJR, which is a whole different kettle of fish.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because it is underpinned by an external Teams Racing Charter belonging to Pete Smith of SCT Logistics, making for a different complexion to how the final say pans out.<\/p>\n

Evans is a pro and has generally made progress in terms of his on-track Supercars performance, although a shocking run of outs through winter put a dampener on his championship ranking.<\/p>\n

He seems to be well regarded by both BJR owner Brad Jones and SCT head of motorsport programs Andrew Jones.<\/p>\n

But you never know when it comes to silly season, and there have been lingering murmurs still connecting rising star Zach Bates<\/a> to a possible Toyota opportunity \u2013 of which SCT now holds the last remaining vacancy for next year.<\/p>\n

It should be noted however that Evans wasn\u2019t confirmed for this season until last November.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not really sure where we\u2019re at, at the moment,\u201d the 29-year-old told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s still some stuff being negotiated but there\u2019s no confirmation of anything yet, so no good news to report, but working hard to make sure I\u2019m on the grid in some capacity next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a pretty crazy silly season outside of our camp and there\u2019s obviously a lot of movement happening.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not confirmed in my seat. It\u2019s something that we\u2019re still discussing, but I\u2019d like to think that I\u2019ve done a good enough job in the race results where we have finished.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have had a string of bad luck which doesn\u2019t ever look good on paper but internally I feel like our progress has been really strong and I feel like when the car is good and we\u2019re on, we\u2019re just as fast as my teammates.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I\u2019m confident that I can be back next year, but we\u2019ll just have to wait and see.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Evans, the prospect of being an inaugural Gen3 Toyota driver is an exciting one.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s certainly one thing that I want to be a part of,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s an awesome project for WAU and BJR. To be able to drive the Supra in its first year of Supercars competition would be pretty special, but we\u2019ll just see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Evans is being partnered by Jack Smith through the Ryco Enduro Cup, in what is a reversal of roles from their 2022-23 pairing.<\/p>\n

\u201cJack\u2019s good. It has kind of felt like full circle. Now we\u2019re driving together again, except in the opposite roles,\u201d said Evans.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe did a really good job at Tailem Bend and I think maybe surprised a few people, but we were confident that him coming back to it was always going to be a positive.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s always relaxed and he really seemed to enjoy any laps that he got at The Bend. So looking forward to going to Bathurst and hopefully having a good run.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mount Panorama is a track Evans is particularly familiar with, from his many starts over the years in the Bathurst 12 Hour.<\/p>\n
