Emma Watson<\/a> has spoken about the “shame” she experienced after losing her licence for speeding, but says she lacked basic life skills after finding fame as a child.<\/p>\n

The Harry Potter<\/a> star, 35, who earlier this week gave her first full interview in years and explained why she had taken a six-year break from acting<\/a>, appeared on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast overnight, where attention turned to her driving ban<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Watson, who had never appeared on a podcast before, said she contacted Shetty just a week ago to ask if she could appear on his show.<\/p>\n

Watson was banned from driving for six months back in July after she was found to be driving at 38 miles per hour (61km\/h) in a 30mph (48km\/h) zone.<\/p>\n

When asked how a normal day looked for her, Watson said she had recently started riding a bicycle, which was a necessity because of her driving ban.<\/p>\n

She touched on the international attention the news of her driving ban received.<\/p>\n

“It’s on the BBC, it is international worldwide news. I was like, ‘My shame is everywhere’,” she said.<\/p>\n

Watson said the “sweetest result” of the news going public was getting messages of support, before explaining that her career as an actress had affected her driving ability.\ufeff<\/p>\n

“I went from when you work on movies, they literally will not insure you to drive yourself to work,” she said, adding she had asked if she could “so many times”.<\/p>\n

“You have to be driven, it’s not a choice.<\/p>\n

“So I went from basically only driving myself on weekends and during [holidays] to then when I became a student driving myself all the time and I did not have the experience or skills clearly, which I now will and do.<\/p>\n

“But I think again, this is one of these awkward transitions I made from living this very, very structured life to living a life where I was like, I guess, ‘I am going to get myself to this place and do this thing I have basically not done since I was 10 years old’.<\/p>\n

“So it has been a discovery and a journey that’s been, I guess, humbling.”<\/p>\n

Watson was nine when she won a search to play the female heroine Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise and appeared in all eight films.<\/p>\n

But she told Shetty she had since realised she lacked a lot of basic life skills.\ufeff<\/p>\n

“On a movie set, I am able to do these extremely complex things, stunts, sing, dance… and then I get home and I am like, ‘Emma, you seem to be unable to remember keys or keep yourself at 30mph in a 30 mile speed limit’,” she said.<\/p>\n

“You don’t seem able to do some basic life things, and it was definitely kind of [like] I had days where I wanted to turn around and tell people and be like ‘I used to be good at things, I used to be really good at things. I know it doesn’t look like it right now’.<\/p>\n

“It’s been humbling.” \ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffElsewhere in the podcast, Watson talked about the “enormous sense of responsibility” she felt whenever she spoke about a project she was working on in case her comments were perceived as negative.<\/p>\n

She also talked about why she quit acting six years ago to become a student.<\/p>\n

“I realised I have the career and the life that looks like the dream but [asked myself], ‘Are you really happy Emma? Are you really healthy?’ And having to admit to myself that I wasn’t was one of the scariest things I have ever had to do.”<\/p>\n

Earlier this week in an interview with Hollywood Authentic, Watson \ufeffsaid that while she missed acting, she did not miss the marketing and ‘selling’ of what she was promoting.<\/p>\n

“I think I’ll be honest and straight-forward, and say: I do not miss selling things. I found that to be quite soul-destroying.”<\/p>\n
