\n\tMariah Carey<\/a> got her Flowers on Wednesday: She appeared on Apple Music\u2019s Flowers as the series\u2019 first guest, where she was interviewed by SZA<\/a> for the livestreamed event.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe pair were in the studio the night before, SZA revealed during their conversation, where they listened to Carey\u2019s new album and also discussed Carey\u2019s secret \u201cgrunge\u201d album she recorded back in the late Nineties, Someone\u2019s Ugly Daughter, which she recorded under the name Chick and recorded as she was making 1995\u2019s Daydream.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for her new material, Carey revealed her favorite song from the new effort is the title track from Here for It All<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s my favorite, and that\u2019s why I named it Here for It All \u2018cause I didn\u2019t want people to pass it by,\u201d Carey said. \u201cBecause I was going to put it as the end song, and then I did, just to make sure people heard it.\u201d Later, the played a snippet of the track, with SZA commenting about the gospel breakdown in it.<\/p>\n

\n\tThey also discussed Carey\u2019s faith and the track \u201cJesus I Do,\u201d which features the Clark Sisters, who Carey said she had been \u201cworshipping for years and years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSZA asked about Carey\u2019s note choices, which Carey said comes as she\u2019s writing. \u201cIt\u2019s interesting, because a lot of it\u2019s born when I\u2019m writing the song, you know. And there\u2019s a melody that is just come to me,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd it stays in the song and it, you know, when the song becomes whatever it\u2019s going to become, that\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for her ad-libs, she added: \u201cI don\u2019t know that I think about it. It\u2019s just something that comes to me during the the moment of creating the song. So it\u2019s all one thing is what I was trying to say before. \u2026 But, yeah, it\u2019s all one moment for me most of the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAt one point, SZA asked Carey what \u201cthe most important thing that your mother taught you about life and about music and singing in general?\u201d Carey\u2019s mother Patricia was an opera singer and vocal coach. Patricia died in August 2024<\/a>, the same day Carey\u2019s estranged sister, Alison, died. \u201cWe had a very interesting relationship, and then she just passed away last year,\u201d Carey said of her mother.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think one of the main things that she said, the one thing she said to me, and it was clear, and it was right there, she said, \u2018Don\u2019t say if I make it, say when I make it,\u201d she continued, which brought tears to her eyes.<\/p>\n
