The WTA Tour has rapidly moved on from the Billie Jean King Cup, with the China Open now taking centre stage in the schedule.<\/p>\n

Aryna Sabalenka isn\u2019t playing the China Open<\/a>, but WTA<\/a> stars Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova are all involved.<\/p>\n

They are all seeded at the WTA 1000 tournament, along with the likes of Jessica Pegula and Jasmine Paolini.<\/p>\n

And their appearances arrive after they battled it out in the Billie Jean King Cup<\/a> final, where Italy beat the USA 2-0.<\/p>\n

Lindsay Davenport was proud of the USA players<\/a>, with the captain having guided the team to their first Billie Jean King Cup final since 2018.<\/p>\n

They lost 3-0 to the Czech Republic that year, but clinched the title the year before with a 3-2 final win over Belarus.<\/p>\n

But Italy managed to successfully defend their title this time around, with Paolini beating Pegula after Elisabetta Cocciaretto beat Emma Navarro.<\/p>\n

Cocciaretto has, however, come crashing back down to earth since that superb individual and team triumph.<\/p>\n

The Italian defeated Chloe Paquet in the first round of China Open<\/a> qualifying, where she was the sixth seed.<\/p>\n

But she has now failed to reach the main draw of the tournament after losing to Priscilla Hon in second round qualifying.<\/p>\n

Her compatriot Paolini is the sixth seed at the event, where she starts off in the second round against Anastasija Sevastova.<\/p>\n

Who is Billie Jean King Cup champion Elisabetta Cocciaretto?<\/p>\n

It was another superb team display from Italy to win the Billie Jean King Cup, securing their sixth title in Shenzhen.<\/p>\n

But it was Paolini and Cocciaretto who were the heroes against the USA, with the scheduled doubles match not required after Italy claimed an unassailable lead.<\/p>\n

Paolini was full of praise for Pegula<\/a> after defeating her 6-4, 6-2, which she did after Cocciaretto battled past Navarro 6-4, 6-4.<\/p>\n

Cocciaretto can, of course, be forgiven for losing so early at the China Open, with her Billie Jean King Cup celebrations likely pouring into the event.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old is currently ranked 91st in the world, but the one-time WTA champion once reached as high as 29th.<\/p>\n
