Paul Speak, Ricky Hatton and Jane Couch<\/p>\nRicky Hatton\u2019s manager was filled with “shock and confusion” when he discovered the boxer’s<\/a> lifeless body. Paul Speak \u2013 who had worked with the former world champion for almost 30 years \u2013 found his friend dead<\/a> at his Greater Manchester home earlier this month and he’s opened up about the wave of emotions that hit him as he processed the scene in front of him.<\/p>\n Paul \u2013 who had gone to Ricky\u2019s home to take him to the airport for a flight to Dubai<\/a> – told Boxing News magazine<\/a>: \u201cThe lights weren\u2019t on, which I thought was strange. I thought he\u2019d overslept, but it\u2019s not unusual. People do oversleep. So, I went inside \u2013 I have a key \u2013 shouting, \u2018Rick, Rick, wake up!\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI heard music coming from upstairs, so I went upstairs\u2026 I took a look at him\u2026 I had to take some time to process it.<\/p>\n \u201cI was in a state of shock and confusion and loss and many more emotions. Then I called the police and the ambulance.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I firmly believe he didn\u2019t intend to do it. It\u2019s for the coroner to determine, but he had it all to live for.\u201d<\/p>\n Paul insisted Ricky<\/a> was \u201cin a really good place\u201d before his death at the age of 46 and had been making a lot of plans.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cHe\u2019d arranged to take his daughters to see Oasis next week. He was planning to go to Thailand for the WBC convention and a holiday after his fight. He\u2019d just booked a flight to Tenerife for Christmas.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to get the truth out, otherwise people will just speculate.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of rubbish written about Ricky and his parents, but he\u2019d seen his mum just last week; gave her a big hug and some love.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was going to see his dad after getting back from Dubai.<\/p>\n \u201cHis daughters had never seen him box, so he was excited for that<\/a>. So many things for him to live for \u2013 he was in a really good place.\u201d<\/p>\n Ricky had spoken openly about his mental health struggles in the past and Paul admitted his friend\u2019s death wouldn\u2019t have been \u201cas big a shock\u201d if it had happened a decade ago.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cIf this was 10 years ago, it wouldn\u2019t have been as big a shock as it was.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been with Ricky to the very highest mountains in boxing to the lowest chasm in life.\u201d<\/p>\n Mental health support<\/p>\n Helplines and support groups<\/p>\n The following are helplines and support networks for people to talk to, mostly listed on the NHS Choices website<\/a><\/p>\n Samaritans<\/a> (116 123) operates a 24-hour service available every day of the year.
