href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a> title rival Oscar Piastri \u201ccrack\u201d by a former driver.<\/p>\n<p>Norris missed out on a golden opportunity to cut Piastri\u2019s 31-point title lead at last weekend\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2025\/azerbaijan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Azerbaijan Grand Prix<\/a>, after the Australian crashed out on the opening lap.<\/p>\n<p>The Brit, thwarted by a poor grid position and a comparatively uncompetitive MCL39 package in Baku, finished a modest seventh, bringing the gap down to just 25 points.<\/p>\n<p>Norris defended his performance and result, saying he \u201cdid the best I could\u201d in both qualifying and the race, denying it was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/2025\/09\/22\/lando-norris-quashes-opportunity-missed-notion-after-f1-azerbaijan-gp-disappointment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cmissed opportunity\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After a difficult early season, in which he lost ground to Piastri and regained much of the deficit in the summer months, Norris had showed considerable improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Norris has been open about his psychological struggles across the early races, but recently has shown improvement in his mental strength.<\/p>\n<p>And Piastri\u2019s countryman and former F1 driver David Brabham believes that focusing on himself is the key to putting the title-leader under more pressure.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Lando-Norris-Oscar-Piastri-McLaren-1-1024x576.webp.webp\" alt=\"McLaren continues to adopt a team first approach\" class=\"wp-image-222330\"  \/>Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been battling for the F1 title all year through<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure about [Norris] using it [mindgames] against [Piastri], because he can\u2019t control it,\u201d Brabham told RacingNews365.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it was a big shock for a lot of people to see Oscar making mistakes like that, and I would imagine it will give Lando hope that there is pressure building and that he\u2019s cracked it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOscar has made mistakes now, it could be something which was needed, so now he\u2019s adjusted, refocused and is going to be stronger for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLando has really just got to focus on himself and get the most out of it because that\u2019s the only way he is going to be able to beat Oscar.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen, if he is doing a really good job, that puts more pressure on Oscar, and we saw [in
