With news this week King Charles<\/a> has ruled out Prince Harry having a half-in, half-out approach<\/a> when it comes to representing the monarchy, there’s increased scrutiny on his post-royal life with wife Meghan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following his recent four-day visit to London<\/a> in support of his charities, the Duke of Sussex<\/a> is said to want to carry out more public engagements in the UK, but away from the royal family.<\/p>\n

His wife, Meghan, is firmly focused on her new career as a lifestyle influencer<\/a> yet the Duchess of Sussex often throws in mentions of her former time as a working royal<\/a> \u2013 knowing full well the attention these comments bring.<\/p>\n

Speaking in 9honey’s new royal series, Crown Duels<\/a>, royal commentator Victoria Arbiter says Meghan and Harry “need to separate that royal affiliation completely” if they want lasting success in America.<\/p>\n

Arbiter points to Harry and Meghan’s visits to Colombia and \ufeffNigeria<\/a>, which were widely compared to royal tours, and heavily criticised by observers who slammed the couple as being hypocritical<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think you can hate everything about royal life and slam the royal family, smear the institution of monarchy and then going out and act like a royal,” she says.<\/p>\n

However, 9honey’s royal reporter Natalie Oliveri believes Meghan needs the association with the royal family to keep people interested in her endeavours.<\/p>\n

And it works both ways, she says.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeff”I do think they need each other to make each other relevant,” Oliveri says.<\/p>\n

“Harry needs Meghan to give him that glow, and Meghan needs Harry for the royal connection, otherwise no-one cares what she has to say.”<\/p>\n

The couple found huge commercial success<\/a> with the release of their tell-all documentary series, Harry & Meghan on Netflix in 2022 but ever since they’ve failed to generate the same audience numbers with other projects.<\/p>\n

Oliveri says: “They’ve been whinging about the royal family, complaining about how hard they had it, but do you think their lives are any better off now that they’re living in California?<\/p>\n

“I do think it’s interesting how they are starting to do things more on their own.”<\/p>\n
