The NHL\u2019s New York Islanders has grown its radio broadcasting team, putting to rest the question of whether game broadcasts would continue after the April dismissals<\/a> of play-by-play announcer Chris King and color analyst Greg Picker \u2014 a move that fans didn\u2019t exactly embrace<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to a news release, Alan Fuehring has been tapped to lead radio coverage. The 35-year-old Fuehring will call about 70 games this year, most solo, with occasional guest analysts.<\/p>\n

For the other dozen or so games, Newsday<\/a> reports that when Fuehring is filling in on MSG Sportsnet for Brendan Burke, Fuehring\u2019s TV call will be simulcast on radio outlets.<\/p>\n

While Fuehring will be on-site to call the Oct. 9 season opener in Pittsburgh, he will primarily cover road games remotely, using monitors \u2014 except for matchups against nearby teams like the Rangers. Islanders radio broadcasters mostly stopped traveling two seasons ago.<\/p>\n

All regular-season games will continue to air on Hofstra University-owned variety WRHU-FM 88.7, JVC Broadcasting\u2019s news\/talk \u201cLI News Radio\u201d WRCN-FM 103.9, the NY Islanders + UBS Arena App, SiriusXM, and the NHL app. The organization also announced an expansion of its partnership with Hofstra, allowing students to take on a greater role in content production and engineering.<\/p>\n

In addition, former Islanders forwards Cal Clutterbuck and Josh Bailey will join the team\u2019s broadcast and programming crew for the 2025-26 season. The move is part of a broader revamp of the Islanders\u2019 media efforts aimed at enhancing fan engagement.<\/p>\n

The two alumni, who combined for more than 1,900 games played with the Islanders, will contribute to a new \u201cfan-first\u201d approach by offering insider perspectives throughout the season. Clutterbuck and Bailey will appear in a series of AltCasts \u2014 personality-driven, entertainment-focused companion broadcasts airing during select nationally televised games. According to the team, the AltCasts will feature \u201cunique access, candid stories, and casual commentary from two of the most beloved players in Islanders history.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clutterbuck will also host a new Islanders podcast that will include appearances from fellow alumni and influencers. The podcast aims to deliver behind-the-scenes insights and previously untold stories. Clutterbuck\u2019s involvement in the team\u2019s media efforts began with the 2025-26 schedule release video, which the team says went viral, generating more than two million impressions \u2014 the most viewed NHL schedule release video of the summer.<\/p>\n

As part of the new programming, the Islanders are launching a cinematic docuseries titled \u201cOn The Island.\u201d The series follows the team and Hockey Operations department throughout the 2025-26 season, beginning with the 2025 NHL Draft and Development Camp. The first episode is currently streaming on YouTube, with a second episode scheduled for early October.<\/p>\n
