Anya Peterson stopped modelling after bullies at high school caused her to feel insecure.<\/p>\n

But she pushed her haters aside, returned to her passion and now has the world is at her feet, as the winner of super-competitive Top Model International.<\/p>\n

Peterson, 19, took London Fashion Week by storm last weekend when she became the first woman from WA to win the competition.<\/p>\n

The Joondalup teenager beat models from 14 other countries to claim the final, which was her prize for also winning Top Model Australia held in Melbourne earlier this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning in Australia and winning internationally is an insane feeling, it\u2019s still sinking in,\u201d she told The West from Amsterdam.<\/p>\n

Peterson strutted the London runway wearing designer labels, including a Polish brand, which resonated with her heritage and \u201cfreaked out\u201d when she learned Jimmy Choo and Tom Ford were in the crowd.<\/p>\n

The rising star started modelling about seven years ago after her mum submitted a photo of her for an online model search.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then I ended up stopping a few years ago due to bullying at school, and I just got so insecure. Then one of my friends started modelling again, and I was just like, I\u2019m not gonna care what people think about me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just kind of went for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peterson eventually came across Top Model Australia, a nationwide model search.<\/p>\n

\u201cI applied online as a wild-card and got a wild-card spot. And since then, I\u2019ve just been putting so many hours and so much effort into modelling, and I guess it\u2019s paid off a little bit,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Peterson is still in Europe meeting talent agencies but will be returning to Perth, where she works as a disability support worker.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll continue doing that in the meantime. I mean, I love my job so much, but of course, modelling is becoming a lot now, so it will probably turn into something a bit more full-time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Peterson is crossing her fingers an agency will sign her, meaning she will get to model around the world.<\/p>\n

In terms of her dream gig, she hopes to one day be the face of Mecca for a skincare campaign.<\/p>\n

After winning Top Model International, Peterson hopes she serves as an inspiration for other young women from WA, or another isolated city.<\/p>\n

\u201cI used to have this kind of thought that Perth was so small, and I just wouldn\u2019t ever get out and become an international model,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I guess that\u2019s not the case. You just have to keep going for it. If you put in all the effort, then you\u2019re going to get something out of it.
