One man has died after a skydiving plane crashed on the NSW South Coast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The plane crashed shortly after 2pm near bushland west of George Bass Dr, Moruya, on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The site is about 2km north of Moruya Airport.<\/p>\n

The pilot, a 54-year-old man, and the only person onboard, died at the scene.<\/p>\n

Australian Parachute Federation CEO Stephen Porter confirmed the pilot had been attempting to land a Pilatus Porter single engine plane around 2.30pm, when it occurred.<\/p>\n

A group of eight skydivers had successfully landed prior to the crash.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is incredibly distressing, and our thoughts and hearts are with everyone at the scene, the pilot\u2019s family and friends, and the entire skydiving community which is in shock,\u201d Porter said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thank all of the first responders and emergency services personal.\u201d<\/p>\n

A SKYONE spokesperson said safety is always the highest priority and the focus now must be on understanding what caused the crash.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt SKYONE we do everything we can to make it as safe as possible for everyone. The close-knit skydiving community here is devastated that this has occurred,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) will investigate.<\/p>\n

The ATSB is deploying a team of transport safety investigators from its Canberra<\/a> and Brisbane<\/a> offices, which specialise in aircraft operations, maintenance and engineering, to the accident site.<\/p>\n

Once on site, investigators will conduct a range of evidence-gathering activities including site survey with a drone, wreckage examination, and recovery of any aircraft components for further examination at the ATSB\u2019s technical facilities in Canberra.<\/p>\n

Investigators will also seek to interview involved parties and witnesses, and collect relevant recorded information including flight tracking data, pilot and aircraft maintenance records, and weather information.<\/p>\n

The APF administers and regulates skydiving as a sport in Australia under the CASA.<\/p>\n

A report will be prepared for the coroner.<\/p>\n

The ATSB asks anyone with video footage of the aircraft at any phase of the flight, or in the immediate aftermath of the accident, to make contact via the witness form<\/a>.<\/p>\n
