OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) \u2014 Thousands of fans crowded downtown Omaha on Saturday to celebrate their hometown hero, Terence \u201cBud\u201d Crawford.<\/p>\n
Crawford was recently crowned the undisputed middleweight champion of the world after beating the former champion, Canelo Alvarez.<\/p>\n
The Omaha native returned to his hometown to a city-wide celebration.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re so proud of Bud, and we support him anytime we can because that\u2019s who we are as people,\u201d Rene Gottsch said.<\/p>\n
The parade for Crawford drew in a massive crowd.<\/p>\n
Many people watching said they have a lot of pride in his victory.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor us personally, just being here and living in Omaha, watching someone from our city rise to the occasion is so inspirational for us as adults and also for our kids,\u201d fan Jason Kinney said.<\/p>\n
Crawford is considered the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels very special, and we\u2019re excited,\u201d said two fans, Cameron and Rene. \u201cThis is putting Omaha on the map, even bigger than it already has been. For him to make history, it means so much to us and all of these people out here. Very special time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bridget Brown, a fan, said the celebration isn\u2019t just about his win \u2013 it\u2019s also to honor his impact on the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love how he gives back to the community,\u201d Brown said. \u201cHe represents Omaha.\u201d<\/p>\n
One example she brought up was the Omaha musician who played during Crawford\u2019s walkout in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe keeps Omaha alive and lets everyone know this is where he\u2019s from, and he\u2019s proud of it,\u201d Brown said. \u201cAnd we\u2019re proud of him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kinney said it was a no-brainer to show up to celebrate Crawford at the parade.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis shows culture for the whole city,\u201d said Kinney. \u201cShowing support for somebody \u2013 who pound-for-pound could be the best boxer probably ever \u2013 you have to come out and support that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Some fans believe Crawford could be one of the top five boxers of all time.<\/p>\n
Charles Johnson said he hopes Crawford\u2019s legacy will continue.<\/p>\n
\u201cGo Bud!\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m ready for the next one. Keep on going!\u201d\t<\/p>\n
