Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson has lifted off with a delegation of WA top space minds to the International Astronautical Congress in Sydney.<\/p>\n
Flanked by 16 Western Australian organisations like universities and businesses specialising in engineering, robotics, and geospacial mapping, the delegation will work to build relationships and share knowledge.<\/p>\n
The Sydney event is the 76th edition of the event with around 10,000 attendees from more than 100 countries set to take part.<\/p>\n
The theme of this year\u2019s event is \u201cSustainable Space: Resilient Earth\u201d, with a focus on the link between space innovation and sustainability.<\/p>\n
WA will have its own stall as part of the event\u2019s \u201cAustralia zone,\u201d which will feature a map of the State\u2019s space infrastructure and imagery of WA\u2019s night skies.<\/p>\n
Mr Dawson \u2014 who jetted off on Saturday \u2014 said the trip was a chance to show off the State\u2019s space sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cWA is bringing a large delegation across the country to IAC 2025 and putting on display exactly what our continually growing space sector has to offer the world,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Cook Government remains committed to making WA \u2018the place for space\u2019 by expanding the local space industry as another key step of diversifying the State\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cAttending IAC 2025 offers a brilliant opportunity for our delegation to make lasting relationships and share knowledge with those who they have never had the chance to meet face to face.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the State Government, about $1 billion in investment and commitments has been made for WA\u2019s nascent space sector since 2018.<\/p>\n
The trip comes as the State Government looks to increase the sector\u2019s capacity, with about 130 businesses involved.<\/p>\n
Ahead of the election, the State Government pledged $2 million for a business case study for a rocket launch pad to be built in WA.<\/p>\n
