As per Page Six,<\/a> the \u2018Interstellar\u2019 star went through a period of time where his bond with his mom got severely strained. The actor shared that he was in no contact with his mom for nearly a decade.<\/p>\n

According to Page Six, The 55-year-old actor recently revealed that he broke all contact with his mom for 8 years. The distance arose because his mother shared details of his personal life, again and again. \u201cWe had about an 8-year period where I had to have short conversations with her on our Sunday phone calls, because she was sharing a lot of that information,\u201d he remarked. He further added, \u201cI\u2019d tell her something on Sunday between son and mom, and Tuesday I\u2019d read about it in the news or see it in the local paper. She couldn\u2019t help herself\u201d<\/p>\n

Kay herself described that moment in their lives as, \u201cWe were on a hiatus.\u201d However, despite the break, the two eventually became closer. \u201cI got stable enough with my own position and fame that I was like, \u2018You know what, my mom can say whatever the hell she wants,’\u201d the star revealed.<\/p>\n

The \u2018How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days\u2019 actor disclosed, \u201cIt\u2019s much more fun now.\u201d The mom-son duo is currently working on a series together. The project is called \u2018The Lost Bus.\u2019 Matthew\u2019s teenage son, Levi, is also part of the project.<\/p>\n

McConaughey\u2019s relationship with his mother highlights the challenges that nearly all familial relationships go through; and it\u2019s worse for those under the umbrella of fame. However, time, perspective and mutual understanding can heal long term issues and renew bonds to grow even stronger.<\/p>\n
