DONGGUAN (China) – Yang Shuyu made it a double celebration for Dongguan New Century after taking home Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors in the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia (WBL Asia) 2025 on Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Before a solid crowd at the Dongguan Sports Center, the 23-year-old combo guard was bestowed with the tournament’s highest individual award for playing a crucial role in delivering the championship to their city.<\/p>\n
Yang indeed saved her best for last, firing 23 points on 61.5-percent shooting – including a 3-of-6 clip from deep – to lead Dongguan NCC to a 95-67 victory over the Fujitsu Red Wave in the Final to annex the crown.<\/p>\n
She finished with averages of 13.3 points on 53.8-percent shooting from the field, 2.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.3 steals to help her side to a five-game sweep of the competition that just wrapped up its second edition.<\/p>\n
This marks yet another major award for Yang, having won the Finals MVP plum when she helped steer her squad to the 2024-25 Women’s Chinese Basketball Association title by ousting Sichuan Yuanda Meile.<\/p>\n
By winning MVP, the Olympic medalist headlined the 2025 All-Star Five, in which she’s joined by teammate Huang Sijing, the Fujitsu tandem of Yuki Miyazawa and Aki Fujimoto, and Sonia Kim of bronze winners BNK Sum.<\/p>\n

Huang, primarily a defender during the tourney, showed assertiveness on offense in the finale for a change. She went a remarkable 6-of-10 from deep and finished with 20 points, alongside 6 rebounds and 4 assists.<\/p>\n
Like Yang, it was also the 29-year-old forward’s best showing of the tilt, allowing her to finish with per-game figures of 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds plus 4.0 assists in 15.0 minutes of action.<\/p>\n
Miyazawa, on the other hand, was one of the meet’s top outside shooters with a 50-percent accuracy. The Japan women’s team stalwart put up 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists to lead Fujitsu.<\/p>\n
Fujimoto, for her part, provided a solid presence inside for the Red Wave, the reigning two-time Women’s Japan Basketball League champions, with 14.5 points on top of 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and a steal.<\/p>\n
Kim, lastly, was undeniably one of the 2025 games’ top players, a solid proof of which was her effort in helping BNK Sum rally from behind to beat the Ulaanbaatar Amazons, 79-74, to salvage a bronze medal.<\/p>\n
Kim produced 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists in the 14-point comeback. She ultimately finished their campaign with numbers of 18.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.<\/p>\n
