CONVERTED Gen3 chassis will not be eligible for new-car shakedowns, Supercars chief motorsport officer Tim Edwards has clarified.<\/p>\n

A number of conversions are bound to take place over the coming off-season amid the flurry of teams switching manufacturer allegiances.<\/p>\n

Brad Jones Racing will transform at least two of its current Camaros into Supras.<\/p>\n

The Albury squad is building at least one brand-new chassis from scratch for 2026, and for another is likely to use salvageable bits from the car which was retired after Jaxon Evans<\/a>\u2019 Darwin crash.<\/p>\n

BJR hasn\u2019t officially confirmed exactly which Camaros will be converted and whether it will retain any in their existing state.<\/p>\n

Walkinshaw Andretti United meanwhile has committed to turning WR 029, its newest Ford Mustang, into a spare Supra<\/a>.<\/p>\n

WR 029 was raced by Chaz Mostert<\/a> through the first half of season 2025 before he returned to his previous chassis for Townsville, a change which sparked an immediate upturn in results for the 33-year-old.<\/p>\n

Neither BJR or WAU will be granted shakedowns for their Supras that have had a past life.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, because when you\u2019re converting a car, fundamentally the mechanics of the car are the same,\u201d Edwards confirmed to V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re literally taking the body off the outside and the engine \u2013 you do the engine changes all the time \u2013 and putting that in. It\u2019s not a new car.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest thing you do new-car shakedowns for is the electrical system.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shakedowns have been permitted for converted chassis prior to Gen3, including for KR009 which transitioned from Altima to Mustang ahead of the 2020 season.<\/p>\n

The other team on the move, Triple Eight, is not anticipated to convert any of its three Camaros as it crosses the brand divide back to Ford.<\/p>\n
