Fellow Australian Kate Eckhardt also produced a solid time in 103.94 but suffered a 50-second penalty for missing a gate, which left her near the back of the field.<\/p>\n
World championship debutant Georgia O’Callaghan was 38th.<\/p>\n
While the errors weren’t ideal, the result was another positive for Fox after she kicked off her campaign on Monday with a fifth in the time trial for kayak cross.<\/p>\n
The elimination round component of that event \u2014 in which Fox triumphed in Paris \u2014 will be held on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Australia’s men also had some promising results in the kayak on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Kaylen Bassett produced a blemish-free run to finish the first round of qualifying in eighth spot, the Melbourne paddler 1.64 seconds off Czech Aam Kral, who set the pace.<\/p>\n
Fellow Melbourne athlete Tristan Carter was one spot back in ninth.<\/p>\n
Like Fox, Paris Olympian Carter’s raw time was faster than leader Kral, but he received a two-second penalty for clipping a gate.<\/p>\n
The men’s semi-final and medal round will also be held on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, without Jessica Fox in the three-person team, Australia was unable to defend its world crown won in London in 2023.<\/p>\n
Noemie, Eckhardt and O’Callaghan finished ninth, with the Czech team taking the honours.<\/p>\n
The Australian men were unlucky not to win a medal, with Bassett, Carter and Ben Ross placing fourth, with France topping the podium.<\/p>\n
