Chinese authorities have approved reserve reports submitted by two major lithium producers in Yichun, Jiangxi, including CATL (HKG: 3750), easing concerns over production disruptions, Bloomberg<\/a> reported today.<\/p>\n

CATL’s Jianxiawo mine, which halted production last month, has now received reserve approval, the report cited people familiar with the matter as saying.<\/p>\n

They said this brings the mine one step closer to obtaining a mining permit and resuming production.<\/p>\n

Gotion High-tech (SHE: 002074) disclosed to Bloomberg on Monday that it maintained continuous production during this period and has received approval from the Ministry of Natural Resources.<\/p>\n

The two miners were among eight required by the Yichun municipal government to submit reserve reports by the end of September after an audit uncovered administrative shortcomings, the report noted.<\/p>\n

CATL suspended production<\/a> at its Jianxiawo lithium mine on August 10 due to the expiration of a key mining permit, triggering a surge in lithium carbonate prices.<\/p>\n

CATL said at the time it was actively processing the permit renewal application.<\/p>\n

On September 9, the official Securities Times reported that a CATL subsidiary in Yichun held a special meeting<\/a> on resuming operations at the lithium mine.<\/p>\n

The company expected to resume operations soon as progress on applying for mining rights and permits was proceeding smoothly, the report cited an informed source as saying.<\/p>\n

Lithium is a key raw material for batteries, which typically account for a significant portion of an electric vehicle (EV) model’s cost.<\/p>\n

Lithium carbonate and iron phosphate are primary raw materials for lithium iron phosphate (LFP). Yichun is a major production hub often referred to as Asia’s lithium capital.<\/p>\n
