Today\u2019s launch of Sora 2 is a leap forward; OpenAI promises the updated video generator is now even more aware of how objects and people move in the real world and says it can generate videos far better than before.<\/p>\n

Guardrails around identity and safety<\/p>\n

The Cameos are fun, but they raise a slew of questions about how OpenAI intends to keep the identities of its users safe. Here\u2019s how the company intends to do that:<\/p>\n

Cameos are opt-in only and verified with video + audio capture.Public figures can\u2019t be generated unless they\u2019ve uploaded their own cameo.Every video carries C2PA provenance metadata and visible watermarks.Parents can configure teen accounts with content filters and DM restrictions.<\/p>\n

OpenAI is hoping that the combination of provenance, watermarks and parental controls<\/a> will be enough to get ahead of the inevitable deepfakes, but only time will tell as the model rolls out and users find workarounds.<\/p>\n
