Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> also touched on the government shutdown on Tuesday night. \u201cDemocrats want Republicans to agree to continue funding Affordable Care Act, whereas Republicans want to use that money to add crab legs to the omelet station at Mar-a-Lago,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd Trump is threatening to make irreversible cuts if there\u2019s a shutdown.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cI was recently the victim of a government shutdown \u2013 they are reversible, I will tell you that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Kimmel then mocked Hegseth\u2019s mandatory meeting with generals in Virginia. \u201cAll the top military leaders were pulled off the frontlines in Portland and Washington, DC and summoned to Quantico for a pep talk with Pete,\u201d he said before a clip of Hegseth boasting: \u201cif our enemies choose foolishly to challenge us, they will be crushed by the violence, precision and ferocity of the war department. In other words, to our enemies: FAFO.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s so awesome,\u201d Kimmel deadpanned. \u201cThat was some speech. Usually when a big group of people gather in one room for Pete Hegseth, it\u2019s an intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut this was a no mercy type of affair,\u201d as Hegseth said he\u2019d do away with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the military, as well as \u201cdudes in dresses\u201d and \u201cfat troops\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s completely unacceptable to see fat admirals and generals in the halls of the Pentagon and leading commands around the country and the world,\u201d Hegseth said. \u201cIt\u2019s a bad look.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kimmel responded with a clip of Trump lumbering about. \u201cI love the idea that Trump is lecturing these guys on fitness,\u201d he laughed. \u201cI mean, if that isn\u2019t the fondue pot calling the kettle fat, I don\u2019t know what is.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the Daily Show, Ronny Chieng also poked fun at Hegseth\u2019s ominous mandatory meeting with US generals. \u201cListen, we all do weird things when we\u2019re drunk, ok?\u201d he joked. \u201cSome of us slide into an ex\u2019s DMs, and some of us call every US general to a meeting at Quantico.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chieng then played clips from Hegseth\u2019s tirade against \u201cfat troops\u201d, which he called a \u201cbad look\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what you called all these generals in for? To tell them they\u2019re fat?\u201d he wondered. \u201cCouldn\u2019t you just leave some passive aggressive comments on their Instagram? Like \u2018hey, congrats general, when are you due?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis guy will text secret war plans, but when it comes to body shaming, he\u2019s like \u2018I want to see their fat faces when I tell them how fat their faces are.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cLook, I get the military needs to be fit,\u201d Chieng continued. \u201cBut in defense of fat generals, they\u2019re kind of like coaches, right? Coaches don\u2019t need to be fit enough to play the sport, they just have to fit enough to date a 24-year-old,\u201d he said next to a photo of Bill Belichick, the former New England Patriots head coach, and his girlfriend Jordon Hudson.<\/p>\n
Hegseth also said he\u2019d ban beards or long hair. \u201cAccording to Pete Hegseth, America\u2019s military standards are now going to be indistinguishable from a Grindr profile \u2013 no fatties, no facial hair, and get those ladies the fuck out of my sight,\u201d Chieng joked.<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> recapped Trump\u2019s meeting with the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, at the White House on Monday, where he told reporters that he\u2019s very confident he could quickly achieve a peace deal in Gaza. \u201cDude, you said within 24 hours nine months ago, \u2018quickly\u2019 is no longer in the cards,\u201d Meyers laughed. \u201cThat\u2019s like James Cameron saying \u2018Avatar 4 is coming quickly.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cThis from the guy who couldn\u2019t even end the war in Portland,\u201d he joked, referring to Trump sending national guard troops to Portland for no reason.<\/p>\n
