Kings Park recorded an extraordinary deluge of 75.6mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Thursday, while Bickley and Swanbourne were drenched with 47.6mm and 46.2mm respectively.<\/p>\n
Garden Island recorded wind gusts of 106km\/h at 4.20am.<\/p>\n
Meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said the strongest wind gusts recorded on Wednesday afternoon included 87km\/h on Rottnest Island.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were definitely strong but it\u2019s not staggeringly strong or pushing into that clear damaging threshold of 90km\/h,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking at the atmospheric conditions (on Wednesday), they weren\u2019t particularly conducive for that tornado development.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t really look like it was the right environment to support that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bickley recorded some of the lowest temperatures, with the mercury plummeting to just 4.7C about 8am.<\/p>\n
\u201c(The cold front) is now moving across those inland parts of Western Australia, directing a broad rain band across much of WA,\u201d Ms Bradbury said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe system is attached to a low pressure system sitting to the south of the continent, and that load is going to help push this cold front and the rain band eastwards over the next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n
A severe weather warning is still in place for the State\u2019s south-east in localities around Balladonia, Eucla, Eyre, Forrest, Israelite Bay and Rawlinna.<\/p>\n
\u201cA deepening low pressure system will extend a vigorous south to southwesterly flow over southeastern parts of the state on Thursday,\u201d the Bureau of Meteorology said.<\/p>\n
Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.<\/p>\n
\u201cDamaging winds are expected to impact coastal areas on Thursday, before broadening into inland regions during Friday, then easing as the low tracks eastwards into Friday evening.<\/p>\n
\u201cWinds are expected to ease below warning thresholds in the South East Coastal district by early Friday morning, and through the remainder of the southeast by Friday evening.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services warned residents to stay away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.<\/p>\n
\u201cBe alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cKeep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Bradbury said Perth locals could enjoy some much needed sunshine before the rain returns early next week.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are heading into a more settled period for Friday and Saturday (with) mostly sunny skies, chance of morning fog, possibly morning frost, but generally much drier and more settled weather,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut by the time we get to the end of the weekend, another cold front is approaching, which could bring us further showers going into the early part of next week and another little burst of cooler air.<\/p>\n
