{"id":187280,"date":"2025-10-03T10:28:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T10:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/187280\/"},"modified":"2025-10-03T10:28:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T10:28:10","slug":"bathurst-6-hour-winners-unexpected-v8-superutes-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/187280\/","title":{"rendered":"Bathurst 6 Hour winner\u2019s unexpected V8 SuperUtes debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DEAN Campbell will make his Tyrepower V8 SuperUtes debut next week aboard the car normally piloted by his Bathurst 6 Hour-winning teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2720-Cameron-Crick\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cameron Crick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With Crick spearheading Matt Stone Racing\u2019s wildcard in the Great Race, the 27-year-old had long planned to sit out the SuperUtes action on the same Mount Panorama weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Initially it was Aussie Racing Cars regular Cody McKay who had been in line to sub in aboard the EFS-backed Isuzu D-Max, only for another twist in the tale courtesy of McKay and his wife expecting an early arrival of their first child.<\/p>\n<p>So, next in the queue was Campbell, whose business DA Campbell Transport services EFS\u2019 freight needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClayton (Mortensen, EFS general manager) actually said to me, \u2018what about Dean?\u2019 I didn\u2019t actually know if Dean wanted to put his hat in the ring at such short notice\u2026 it all happened pretty quick!\u201d Crick told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/6Hour_SS1_0974-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-221561\"  \/>Dean Campbell and Cameron Crick on the 6 Hour podium. Pic: Supplied\/Speed Shots Photography<\/p>\n<p>Campbell is still relatively new to racing but has enjoyed a whirlwind 12 months alongside Crick, the pair winning the 2024 Australian Production Cars title, then pulling off an epic victory in this year\u2019s Bathurst 6 Hour, and currently running second in GT4 Pro-Am.<\/p>\n<p>For Bathurst resident Campbell, the V8 SuperUtes outing will mark his first racing laps around the Mountain since that Easter triumph.<\/p>\n<p>He got his first taste of the Isuzu today at Lakeside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty good. It went better than I thought it was going to,\u201d he told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t get me wrong, they\u2019re a handful, but I think a lot of the production car stuff that we\u2019ve done has probably helped, because they\u2019re a lot of power and not a lot of grip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I guess it was something I used to in a roundabout kind of a way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a little bit more manhandling than maybe the BMW (production car) and obviously a lot more going on with the blipping and whatnot.
