Each year, more than half a million passengers, 146,000 cars and 14,000 freight vehicles rely on the service.<\/p>\n<p>While SeaLink\u2019s two new ferries have been delayed until June 2026, the State Government has stepped in to roll out benefits for locals ahead of schedule. From November 1, residents will be able to book their vehicle for just $30.35 on selected services \u2014 almost $50 cheaper than the standard fare \u2014 with two morning departures from Penneshaw and two evening departures from Cape Jervis offering the discounted rate. An additional daily return service has also been guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers will continue to see livestock freight fees frozen at $39.60 until the end of 2026, a move designed to ease pressure following tough drought conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Minister Emily Bourke said the upgrades and agreements with SeaLink would provide confidence for islanders, farmers and tourists alike. \u201cOur priority is making sure access to and from the island remains consistent, reliable and affordable,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Member for Mawson Leon Bignell added that the timing of the required three-day service suspension in May 2026 would be finalised with local consultation, ensuring minimal impact after the busy Easter and school holiday period. Bignell said, \u201cIt\u2019s vital the three-day shutdown period occurs in the quieter times, following summer and Easter and that local stakeholders are consulted on its timing.
