{"id":18863,"date":"2025-07-24T15:53:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T15:53:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/18863\/"},"modified":"2025-07-24T15:53:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T15:53:13","slug":"will-fawlty-towers-reboot-ever-see-the-light-of-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/18863\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Fawlty Towers reboot ever see the light of day?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t\t\t\t\tDon&#8217;t mention the reboot&#8230;.\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Two years ago in a blaze of publicity, Fawlty Towers was being heralded with a new reboot led by John Cleese, and daughter Camilla.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s still no sign of it proceeding anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the answer lies in what Cleese told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/magazines\/style\/celebrity\/article\/3226032\/john-cleese-polanski-coronation-rebooting-fawlty-towers-joining-gb-news-putin-impending-apocalypse\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South China Morning Post<\/a>, \u201cThey asked if we could do it, and I gave the answer I\u2019ve been giving for 40 years, which is that I don\u2019t really see how it could possibly be a success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, wined and dined by a US producer, his mind was changed over the course of a single dinner. While Cleese and his daughter Camilla signed on to co-write the reboot there was no script, no concept, no location, and no characters apart from Basil. Cleese\u2019s first wife, co-writer and co-star Connie Booth, was notably not involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will \u201cprobably be set in the Caribbean\u201d, he conceded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have an idea yet \u2013 we have half an idea. The trouble is one of the producers wanted to promote himself a little bit and sent out a press release without warning anyone, and suddenly everyone got excited over something that hardly exists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In April he told Virgin Radio,\u00a0\u201cIt got a bit sidelined because of all the other things that are going on, like the need to earn a living.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t mention the reboot&#8230;.
