DENVER \u2014 Vanderbilt women\u2019s golf produced a hot start at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, carding the second-best round in program history at 17-under-par on Friday. The Commodores have a five-stroke lead on Colorado.<\/p>\n
Lynn Lim, tied for first place individually, notched a 7-under-par 65 that included five birdies on the back nine and an eagle. Angelina Tolentino, competing as an individual, is tied for third place after opening the tournament with a bogey-free 6-under 66.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday was a really good day and a nice way to start the tournament,\u201d said head coach Greg Allen. \u201cLynn did a great job of staying patient early, then got her round going with a chip in for eagle on nine and then just rode that momentum all the way to the end. I\u2019m really proud of what Angelina has been doing lately. She put together an impressive bogey-free round.\u201d<\/p>\n
Elizabeth Rudisill posted a 5-under 67 with seven birdies to her name. She is tied for fifth individually. Ava Merrill opened with a 3-under 69 and Kathryn Ha added a 2-under-par 70. Tillie Claggett shot a 74.<\/p>\n
\u201cRudy was up and down early and then settled down and played great,\u201d said Allen. \u201cAva and Kathryn were solid all day, and I look for Tillie to bounce back tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Commodores lead the field in scoring average across all hole types and share the tournament lead in birdies with 23.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs good as we played today, we need to reset and come out ready to compete tomorrow,\u201d said Allen. \u201cThey\u2019re calling for some crazy winds towards the end of our round so we need to come with the right mindset and embrace the challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n
