Fox had struggled to replicate her Paris Games form and finished third in her opening race on Saturday.<\/p>\n
After entering the repechage round, the 28-year-old failed to reach the quarterfinals after a last-placed finish in her heat.<\/p>\n
There was so much more left in the tank,” Fox said.<\/p>\n
“Most starts were really, really rough today.<\/p>\n
“I didn’t ever get the starts that I wanted and I just struggled from there to make space and attack as I wanted to.<\/p>\n
“I’m finishing with a big heartbreak and pretty devastated to be knocked out so early.”<\/p>\n
Fox reached both the C1 and K1 finals but finished ninth and 12th respectively.<\/p>\n
Her sister, three-time Olympic gold medallist Jess, did compete in Penrith as she is continuing her recovery from surgery.<\/p>\n
Fox’s teammate Codie Davidson was knocked out in her repechage round, finishing fourth after missing an early gate.<\/p>\n
Australians Tim Anderson and Lucien Delfour failed to progress to the men’s kayak cross final.<\/p>\n
Kate Eckhardt and Kaylen Bassett won bronze for Australia in their respective women’s K1 and men’s C1 events earlier in the championships.<\/p>\n
