{"id":190047,"date":"2025-10-04T18:28:25","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T18:28:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/190047\/"},"modified":"2025-10-04T18:28:25","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T18:28:25","slug":"helmut-marko-makes-different-atmosphere-dig-at-christian-horner-after-red-bull-f1-dismissal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/190047\/","title":{"rendered":"Helmut Marko makes &#8216;different atmosphere&#8217; dig at Christian Horner after Red Bull F1 dismissal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/tag\/redbull\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Bull<\/a> advisor Helmut Marko has revealed that Laurent Mekies\u2019 arrival after Christian Horner\u2019s dismissal has brought a \u201ctotally different atmosphere than before\u201d at the Formula 1 giants.<\/p>\n<p>After serving as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redbullracing.com\/int-en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milton Keynes-based squad<\/a>\u2018s CEO and Team Principal since its inception in 2005, Horner was shown the exit door earlier this season.<\/p>\n<p>The Briton had come under scrutiny from the fans and media after his \u2018inappropriate behaviour\u2019 scandal last season. <\/p>\n<p>Since then, rumours had been abound that Horner had lost the faith of the upper echelons of Red Bull\u2019s management.<\/p>\n<p>A prolonged period of struggle with a deficient RB21 was the final nail in the coffin that saw Horner sacked mid-way through the current season.<\/p>\n<p>Former Ferrari man Mekies, who had led sister team Racing Bulls since 2024, was promoted to the main team with immediate effect from the Belgian GP onwards. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course it took me by surprise. Then you try to digest and then you say, wait a second, it\u2019s Red Bull calling you to step in that role. How can it be anything else than a privilege,\u201d he had told Formula1.com. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you get that Red Bull energy feeling there. And that\u2019s how it happened. Obviously I called them back. And the rest is history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Laurent-Mekies-Red-Bull-3-1024x576.webp.webp\" alt=\"Laurent Mekies has taken the helm at Red Bull\" class=\"wp-image-217150\"  \/>Laurent Mekies has been at the helm at Red Bull since the Belgian Grand Prix, replacing Christian Horner<\/p>\n<p>Marko makes Horner comparison with Mekies in Red Bull hot seat<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchman has been at the helm of the six-time Constructors\u2019 champions for three races so far \u2014 overseeing Max Verstappen\u2019s return to a Grand Prix podium for the first time since the Canadian GP, last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Marko, who was crucial in elevating Mekies to the Team Principal role, has now given his verdict while taking a subtle dig at his former partner-in-crime. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMekies is a top technician, which, with the complexity of the current Formula 1, is a huge advantage,\u201d he told OE24. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe gets along well with people, there is a totally different atmosphere than before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking forward to the 2026 regulations reset, however, the Austrian was cautiously optimistic about the team\u2019s chances. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at the experience of our competitors, that\u2019s true. But I say: we shall see,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe subject is so complex that under the new regulations everything is possible. There will be huge surprises, both positive and negative.
