\t\t\tBethpage was billed as bedlam, but the chants swung from inspired terrace gold to full-body cringe. Here are the best (and very worst) efforts from the 2025 Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n

The Ryder Cup always has an atmosphere unlike any other golf event, but 2025 at Bethpage Black was meant to take things to the next level. The rowdy New York crowd was predicted to be \u201cabsolute chaos\u201d<\/a>, pumped up by the occasion and the appearance of their president, Donald Trump. \u201cA tsunami of noise,\u201d predicted Bryson DeChambeau.<\/p>\n

On day one, it was a little underwhelming.<\/p>\n

The fact a small gathering of Europeans could clearly be heard chanting \u201cIs this a library?\u201d said it all, much to Shane Lowry\u2019s amusement.<\/p>\n

In fairness to the home fans, it\u2019s hard to make a lot of noise when your boys are giving you little to cheer about. Forget tsunami of noise, the morning session was a tidal wave of blue as Europe swept to a 3-1 lead that made ominous reading for Keegan Bradley\u2019s side<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, with the bars well and truly open and the President greeting players on the 1st tee, the atmosphere did pick up a bit.<\/p>\n

And by Saturday afternoon, the fans were in full voice. Some of them a bit too full, perhaps \u2013 given the abuse hurled at Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry<\/a>, including while they attempted to play shots. <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a rundown of the best and worst chants heard at Bethpage Black during the Ryder Cup\u2026<\/p>\n

The best Ryder Cup chants at Bethpage\"PatrickCantlay\u2019s hat trick<\/p>\n

Patrick Cantlay was at the center of the \u2018hat-gate\u2019 controversy at the 2023 Ryder Cup. He was a leading voice insisting players should be paid to play in the Ryder Cup, and didn\u2019t wear the team cap all week. He insisted that was because it didn\u2019t fit, but most fans believed it was in protest at the lack of payment.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s all been sorted now, with Team USA players receiving $500,000 to play<\/a>, and \u2013 totally coincidentally \u2013 Cantlay finding a cap that fits.<\/p>\n

It all led to this lovely little chant:<\/p>\n

\u201cCantlay\u2019s got his hat on hip hip hip hooray, Cantlay\u2019s got his hat on so he must be getting paid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ain\u2019t no sunshine for captain Keegs<\/p>\n

Keegan Bradley faced the difficult decision of whether he should pick himself as the first playing captain since 1963. He opted not to, but may have regretted it as he watched the players he\u2019d picked ahead of him struggle so badly.<\/p>\n

The European fans were predictably sympathetic:<\/p>\n

\u201cShoulda picked yourself, picked yourself, shoulda picked yourself,\u201d they sang, to the tune of Give It Up by KC and The Sunshine Band.<\/p>\n

He also got a number of renditions of \u201cYou\u2019re getting sacked in the morning!\u201d for good measure.<\/p>\n

Ode to Bob<\/p>\n

It wouldn\u2019t be a sports event without a bit of Gala \u2018Freed from Desire\u2019 now, would it?<\/p>\n

\u201cBobby\u2019s on fire! USA is terrified! Bobby\u2019s on fire! Na na na na na na!\u201d and so on.<\/p>\n

On the clock<\/p>\n

Slow play is one of golf\u2019s biggest scurges, so I\u2019m all for fans loudly counting how long it takes players to hit a shot, as the Americans fans did to Viktor Hovland and Bob MacIntyre. Can we introduce this at every tour event?<\/p>\n

The Scotsman was less appreciative \u2013 \u201cI\u2019m surprised they can count,\u201d he quipped. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s always good when some of the better soccer songs make it to golf, and that was the case at Bethpage.<\/p>\n

European fans were chanting \u201cScottie gets battered, everywhere he goes\u201d at Scottie Scheffler on the range last night, reminding him of his 0-4 record this week.<\/p>\n

Seems like some of the European fans would quite like Bryson DeChambeau to pull on the blue and gold. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re French and you know you are!\u201d they sang at the Texan, because \u2018DeChambeau\u2019 is a French name, you see?
<\/a><\/p>\n

The worst Ryder Cup chants at Bethpage\"TheThe Guardians of the Ryder Cup<\/p>\n

The self-appointed \u2018Guardians of the Ryder Cup\u2019 have long been an embarrassment to normal European fans \u2013 a troupe of guffawing try-hards who decided this competition would be nothing without their painfully middle-class \u201ctop banter\u201d.<\/p>\n

They churn out pre-planned songs with the enthusiasm of that guy on a stag do who\u2019s only allowed out once every two years, convinced the whole crowd will join in\u2026 only to discover no one else is remotely interested.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re Hatton and you know it, clap your hands\u201d might be their best effort this time, which says it all really.<\/p>\n

But, amazingly, the Guardians aren\u2019t the worst bunch of cheesy cheerleaders at the Ryder Cup. That honor goes to the American Marshals, a gang of 13 Americans who, at their ninth Ryder Cup, have honed their songwriting to come up with gems like this:<\/p>\n

\u201cU.. S\u2026 no, sorry, I\u2019ve forgotten it again\u201d<\/p>\n

If there\u2019s one chant all Americans can handle, no matter how many $15 beers they\u2019ve put away, it\u2019s the one that goes \u201cUSA! USA! USA!\u201d over and over and over again.<\/p>\n

And yet, for some unknown reason, the organizers felt they might need help with it on Saturday morning, and the result was embarrassingly flat:<\/p>\n

Thought that was bad? Then you ain\u2019t seen nothing yet.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what happened when two people with a loudspeaker tried to get the crowd to sing \u201cScottie Scheffler\u201d to the tune of We Will Rock You. No, me neither.<\/p>\n
