Police have set up a strike force after an elderly woman was found dead in her Western Sydney home on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Irene Selmes, 84, was found dead in the bedroom of a home on Comet Street, Melonba after her family called emergency services about midday Saturday.<\/p>\n
Police have been told the last time Irene’s family saw her was the night before.<\/p>\n
Detectives are now treating her death as suspicious and the Homicide Squad is investigating the circumstances under Strike Force Vado.<\/p>\n
“She was located with injuries to her upper body,” Acting Superintendent Gretchen Grove-Jones said.<\/p>\n
“She was last seen at 9:30pm the previous evening.<\/p>\n
“The family is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances.”<\/p>\n
Superintendent Grove-Jones said Ms Selmes lived with her family at the property and they have been assisting police.<\/p>\n
No weapons or items of interest were located at the scene, Superintendent Grove-Jones said.<\/p>\n
Her son, along with his partner and their children, were home at the time and police are appealing for public help for any information.<\/p>\n
