Honouring the past while looking to the future has been no cake walk for Kefi & Cakes owner Zoe Mallis, who sought to refresh Mt Hawthorn\u2019s Bites by D earlier this year to align with an evolving dessert and high tea market.<\/p>\n

Ms Mallis took over ownership of the cafe in 2020 after serving as head pastry chef, and announced the space would be undergoing a makeover in January this year.<\/p>\n

Re-opening in a \u201cpastel dream\u201d of vibrant florals in late February, the owner said long-time customers can expect the same focus on authentic, house-made products and elegant desserts they always had.<\/p>\n

And they can be sure the dessert specialist is still behind the operation, despite some confusion it had changed hands.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the name has changed, the heart of the business remains the same, now infused with a deeper connection to my Greek heritage,\u201d Ms Mallis told PerthNow.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Kefi\u2019 is a Greek word that reflects joy, good vibes, and living in the moment \u2014 and that\u2019s exactly what Kefi & Cake stands for: good food, good people, and good fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Mallis has trained at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu London culinary school, and was even commissioned to design a showcase cake for The Ritz\u2019 wedding open day.<\/p>\n

But beyond her sumptuous snacks, the owner is hoping to elevate the holistic experience as she leans further into the catering space.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pastels and florals tie in beautifully with our target market, which includes baby showers, hen\u2019s parties, and birthdays. It\u2019s about creating something memorable and perfectly suited to those special occasions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Those stopping by at her vibrant new cafe will notice there\u2019s more than just decadent desserts on the menu.<\/p>\n

Buoyed by the feedback from guests, Ms Mallis said the community response has been overwhelmingly positive in the months since she rebranded.<\/p>\n

\u201cI often hear people say \u2018wow\u2019 when they walk in, and many have described us as a \u2018hidden gem,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
