Team India got the better of arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 to retain the crown with a 5-wicket win that sent the nation into celebrations.<\/p>\n

The match was set to the heated backdrop of the geopolitical tensions between the nations and what was remarkable was the fact that there were no handshakes between the sides as is customary.<\/p>\n

However, Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha revealed that Indian counterpart Suryakumar Yadav did in fact shake hands with him in person, but refused to do so on camera.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe shook hands with me in private at the start of the tournament,” Agha said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth at the pre-tournament press conference and when we met in the referee\u2019s meeting. But when they are out in front of the cameras, they don\u2019t shake our hands,”<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure he\u2019s following instructions he\u2019s been given, but if it was up to him, he\u2019d shake hands with me,” he said.<\/p>\n

India refused to receive the trophy from PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who then went on to leave the premises with the title, which complicated things further.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat India has done in this tournament is very disappointing,” he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re not disrespecting us by not shaking hands-they\u2019re disrespecting cricket. Good teams don\u2019t do what they did today. We went to pose with the trophy on our own because we wanted to fulfill our obligations. We stood there and took our medals. I don\u2019t want to use harsh words, but they\u2019ve been very disrespectful. This is the first time I\u2019ve ever seen this happen. Whatever happened in this tournament was very bad, and I hope it stops at some stage because it\u2019s bad for cricket,” the Pakistani skipper said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not just a Pakistan captain, I\u2019m a cricket fan. If a kid is watching in India or Pakistan, we\u2019re not sending them a good message. People think of us as role models, but if we\u2019re behaving like this, we\u2019re not inspiring them. What happened shouldn\u2019t have happened, but you should ask the people (India) responsible for this rather than me.”<\/p>\n

Pakistan and India faced off thrice in the span of the continental tournament and the men in blue came up trumps on all occassions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not playing good cricket against them, and if you look at it overall, we are still behind them. Every team has an era-maybe this is theirs. We used to beat them in the \u201990s; now they are beating us, and you will see very soon we will start beating them,”<\/p>\n
