FARGO, N.D. \u2013 The St. Olaf College women’s tennis team dropped its second 4-3 decision in three days in falling to Concordia-Moorhead in its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener on Sunday afternoon at Courts Plus.<\/p>\n

Concordia (1-3, 1-1 MIAC) won a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles point and got the singles split it needed to top St. Olaf (0-2, 0-1 MIAC). The win was the Cobbers’ first in the series since March 9, 2002, snapping the Oles’ 25-match winning streak.<\/p>\n

Seniors Alexandra Berns<\/a> and Emma Clift<\/a> picked up their second 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles in three days to put the first point on the board for St. Olaf. After the Cobbers claimed a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, Concordia won a tiebreak, 7-2, at No. 3 doubles to grab the doubles point.<\/p>\n

Berns rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory atop the singles lineup to record an identical score to her win on Friday that came in her first match at No. 1 singles. Concordia logged a straight-set win at No. 3 singles to go up 2-1 before Clift closed out a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 2 singles to tie the score at 2-2.<\/p>\n

The Cobbers got consecutive straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles in the next two matches to finish to reach the four required points before sophomore Evelyn Smiley<\/a> claimed a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles for her second singles win in a dual match.<\/p>\n

With its fall match schedule complete, St. Olaf will be off until a Feb. 15 road match against the College of St. Scholastica at Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club.
