A man who allegedly “stormed a home” and threatened a mother and son with a taser while demanding prescription drugs and cash will remain in custody.<\/p>\n
The ACT Magistrates Court heard Ethan Mullis, 23, was “pretty desperate” when he allegedly made threats to kill the two people at their Duffy home on October 4.<\/p>\n
Police said the Chisholm man had a taser and trapped the mother and son in a bedroom at around 12:50pm.<\/p>\n
He allegedly continued making threats until they tried to find prescription drugs for him.<\/p>\n
Police arrived at the home soon after the man had left and spoke to the alleged victims and a witness.<\/p>\n
They later found the car the man had allegedly fled the scene in, at a different Duffy home.<\/p>\n
Mr Mullis was subsequently arrested and charged.<\/p>\n
He appeared via video link in court on October 6, facing four counts of forcible confinement, two counts of threatening to kill, aggravated burglary and using a prohibited weapon without authorisation.<\/p>\n

Magistrate Glenn Theakston said Mr Mullis’s charges were serious and that he had allegedly committed a home invasion and “stormed a home”.<\/p>\n
But Mr Mullis later chose to speak in court and said he did not force his way into the home and that he was permitted in.<\/p>\n
“She allowed me in,” Mr Mullis said.<\/p>\n
His lawyer told the court he had been a user of illicit substances since he was 11 years old and had just been accepted into residential rehabilitation in Batemans Bay, after waiting for months.<\/p>\n
She argued Mr Mullis should be granted bail in order to attend the rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
But Magistrate Theakston said he had no confidence a person with Mr Mullis’s level of drug issues could comply with the proposed bail conditions.<\/p>\n
He decided to remand him in custody, but pushed forward Mr Mullis’s next court date to allow for pleas and another bail application to be made in order to attend the rehabilitation centre.<\/p>\n
