{"id":192742,"date":"2025-10-06T05:01:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T05:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/192742\/"},"modified":"2025-10-06T05:01:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T05:01:07","slug":"prime-minister-anthony-albanese-calls-for-political-temperature-to-be-turned-down-after-alleged-death-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/192742\/","title":{"rendered":"Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calls for political temperature to be &#8216;turned down&#8217; after alleged death threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is calling for the political temperature to be &#8220;turned down&#8221; after a <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-10-04\/queensland-man-alleged-death-threat-anthony-albanese\/105852220\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/105852220\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Queensland man was charged for allegedly threatening<\/a> to kill him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Norman Dean Lake was arrested at a property north of Brisbane on Saturday, after allegedly using social media to make a threat on Anthony Albanese&#8217;s life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He has been charged with one count of using a carriage service to make a threat to kill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The offence carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Albanese declined to go into the specifics of the case with the matter before the court.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have consistently said we need to, wherever possible, turn down the temperature of debate, and to agree and disagree respectfully,&#8221;  he said.Level of threats has &#8216;elevated substantially&#8217;, PM says<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Albanese said the level of threats had &#8220;elevated substantially&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;ASIO&#8217;s director-general has been very clear \u2014 increasingly, the number of reports that I receive are substantial,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He said it had impacted what he has been able to do and how he is able to do it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I like the idea that I can go get dog food for Toto at Woolworths here, and I like the idea that during the campaign I can walk through shopping centres and walk through malls,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t want to lose that. It&#8217;s a great thing about Australians, and the great thing about our country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Albanese pointed to other countries, including the United States and United Kingdom, where public figures and politicians had been targeted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;We have a vibrant democracy here.
