With their gnarly jumps, tricks and flips, thrill seekers will face-off at the Scarborough beach foreshore at the weekend when WA<\/a>\u2019s biggest multi-sport<\/a> festival returns.<\/p>\n

The Groundswell Festival, hosted by the City of Stirling,<\/a> will see surfers, skateboarders and basketballers<\/a> compete across two days.<\/p>\n

Luke Tooze, 24, who has been BMX riding since he got his first bike for Christmas when he was eight, will be one of the competitors.<\/p>\n

\u201c(The event) keeps growing bigger and bigger each year, and the more this event grows, the more it means for BMX in Perth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

James Rixom, 12, has been skateboarding since he was eight years old and will be competing in the event for the third year in a row.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started skateboarding after my mum showed me a video of a boy skateboarding and I thought, \u2018I want to do that\u2019, because it looks really cool, flying out of bowls and stuff,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like you\u2019re on nothing, like you\u2019re on thin-air and then you come back down and you land.\u201d<\/p>\n

James\u2019 father Shane Rixom said it was great seeing his son improve each week \u2014 although admitted it could be at times hard to watch.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a parent, its pretty nerve wracking, these kids are flying six foot out of a 12ft bowl, so it\u2019s scary to watch. But, you put a helmet on them, you put pads on them, and you sort of hope for the best,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a great weekend for all the kids in the community to come together for a range of sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cGroundswell is the pinnacle for skateboarding events in WA.\u201d<\/p>\n

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said it was a great event.<\/p>\n

\u201cGroundswell has grown to become one of our premier events, covering everything from BMX, surfing and skate to live music and basketball,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Tourism Minister Reece Whitby encouraged people to get involved.<\/p>\n
