of former Hull FC star follows in dad&#8217;s footsteps with NRL move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nick O\u2019Meley, the son of former Hull FC star Mark, is set to follow in his father\u2019s footsteps as he joins NRL outfit Canterbury Bulldogs ahead of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Now 27, versatile back Nick has enjoyed a successful campaign at second-grade level with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/tag\/burleigh-bears\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Burleigh Bears<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p>Scoring seven tries in eight matches, he helped Burleigh to victory in the Queensland Cup Grand Final against Norths Devils at the back end of last month.<\/p>\n<p>The Bears were then beaten by New Zealand Warriors\u2019 reserves, who had already clinched the New South Wales Cup title, in the State Championship over the weekend just gone.<\/p>\n<p>But O\u2019Meley, whose dad was affectionately known as \u2018ogre\u2019 throughout his career, will now link up with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/club\/canterbury-bulldogs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Bulldogs<\/a> on a train-and-trial deal.<\/p>\n<p>Son of former Hull FC star follows in father\u2019s footsteps as NRL move sealed<\/p>\n<p>Bulldogs chief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/tag\/phil-gould\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Phil Gould<\/a> \u2013 who was commentating for Australian outlet Channel 9 \u2013 revealed during the State Championship clash that O\u2019Meley junior was on his way to the club.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old was just six when dad Mark \u2013 who played more than 100 first-grade games for the club \u2013 formed part of the Bulldogs side that won the 2004 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/nrl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NRL<\/a> Grand Final against Sydney Roosters.<\/p>\n<p>Kangaroos international and New South Wales representative Mark, now 44, then went on to don a shirt for the Roosters before rounding off his first-grade career in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/super-league\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Super League<\/a> with Hull FC.<\/p>\n<p>Joining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/club\/hull-fc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Airlie Birds<\/a> ahead of the 2010 campaign, the powerhouse forward spent four seasons at the MKM Stadium and racked up 90 appearances before departing at the end of 2013.<\/p>\n<p>During his time in the British game, prop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/tag\/mark-omeley\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark<\/a> also represented The Exiles against England.<\/p>\n<p>A brief stint with Wyong Roos followed back Down Under before he hung his boots up at the end of 2014, though he did return for a one-off game the following year to play alongside son
