Once a rarity, a Porsche<\/a> fetching more than seven figures at auction is becoming an increasingly common occurrence, especially for bygone-era cars with plenty of racing provenance attached. But what about an example of a track-focused model introduced just over 24 months ago, and the car itself has never been on a circuit? That question will be answered when this 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport <\/a>crosses the block at Broad Arrow\u2019s Zoute Concours Auction<\/a> on October 10.<\/p>\n

In September of 2023, the limited-edition 911 variant was publicly unveiled by Porsche Motorsport at Northern California\u2019s WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as part of Rennsport Reunion 7<\/a>. The four-day event was, at the time, billed by the German marque as \u201cthe largest Porsche<\/a> meeting the world has ever seen,\u201d and boasted a claimed attendance of approximately 91,000 enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

In the official press release after the reveal, Thomas Laudenbach, Porsche\u2019s vice president of Motorsport, noted; \u201cThe new Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport offers the experience of driving a 911-based race car in what is probably the most primal form.\u201d<\/p>\n

To that end, the rarefied model is based off the 992-generation 911 GT3 R<\/a> racer, the latter developed to compete in GT3-series competition, including its category in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe GT3 R rennsport is one of the most limited production cars to come out of Zuffenhausen in the last decades,\u201d says Jakob Greisen, senior car specialist at Broad Arrow. Commenting to Robb Report on the model\u2019s uncommon exclusivity, he cites the fact that there were \u201cjust 77 examples for the Global market in a time when the auto manufacturers tended to produce as many examples as possible to maximize sales.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the 911 GT3 R rennsport has the GT3 R as a foundation, it leaves the FIA\u2019s stringent regulations and performance parameters for race qualification in the rearview. This translates to the car being given a naturally aspirated, 4.2-liter six-cylinder boxer engine that delivers up to an additional 54 hp, bringing the total to 611 hp. The power plant, working on E25 fuels, is mated to a sequential six-speed constant-mesh gearbox managed by the driver through steering-wheel paddles.<\/p>\n

With a carbon-fiber body to assist in the target curb weight of 2,734 pounds, the GT3 R rennsport was designed by Style Porsche\u2019s Grant Larson and Thorsten Klein, and features various elements that pay homage to more than one of the German automaker\u2019s icons. According to the marque, the rear wing, for instance, \u201cis reminiscent of that of the legendary Brumos Porsche 935\/77,\u201d which finished first at the 1978 24 Hours of Daytona. In the official announcement of the car, Porsche goes on to say that the wing\u2019s supports are \u201creminiscent of the Porsche 962 Le Mans racing car bridging the gap between past and present.\u201d Also indicative of the vehicle\u2019s track intent is the roll-cage-equipped cockpit\u2019s solitary seat.<\/p>\n

Broad Arrow\u2019s lot description states that the car being presented is No. 37 of the 77 built, and \u201cwas ordered directly from Porsche by the consignor.\u201d The owner opted to have the car dressed in the optional red-and-white \u201cFlacht Design\u201d presentation common to the marque\u2019s own racing teams, and the interior is fit with red harnesses, also offered as optional. Importantly, Broad Arrow<\/a> asserts that \u201cthis motorsport special has remained housed in a collection in an \u2018as delivered\u2019 state . . . and is offered with test and delivery kilometers registered on its digital race dash.\u201d<\/p>\n

When introduced, the 911 GT3 R rennsport had a starting price of $1.046 million. Yet considering that Greisen refers to it as \u201ca technological marvel, true to Porsche\u2019s DNA, and a car that has already made its mark as an instantly collectible car from one of the most celebrated marques,\u201d it\u2019s understandable that this particular Porsche carries a high-end estimate of $1.99 million.<\/p>\n
