Collingwood coach Craig McRae attempted to poke some fun at the situation at the club\u2019s awards night on Saturday, saying on stage: \u201cCongratulations to Nick Daicos, who is now a three-time All-Australian at the age of 22.<\/p>\n

McRae was then left with egg on his face when Daicos also failed to win his own club best and fairest count, finishing second behind ruckman Darcy Cameron, leading to a strong response from the footy world.<\/p>\n
The Suns tweeted an image of McRae and the Collingwood vote count with the caption: \u201cThis aged soooo well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Veteran caller Stephen Quartermain tweeted: \u201cA bit disrespectful and disingenuous given the fact he didn\u2019t even win his B&F \u2026 jog on.\u201d<\/p>\n
It has now emerged that Nick\u2019s famous dad Peter reportedly didn\u2019t take kindly to McRae\u2019s ribbing on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Reporter Tom Morris was at the function at Crown Palladium and said Peter Daicos \u201cstormed out\u201d shortly after McRae\u2019s attempted humour at his son\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was really interested being at the Collingwood best and fairest listening to Craig McRae\u2019s speech,\u201d Morris said on AFL Trade Radio. \u201cI thought by and large he spoke well.<\/p>\n

Later, on Fox Footy\u2019s Trading Day, Herald Sun journalists Jon Ralph and Glenn McFarlane briefly discussed the circumstances around McRae\u2019s \u201cquirky\u201d speech. <\/p>\n
Ralph began: \u201cSpeaking of strange occurrences, with a walkout, there was a weird speech from the coach, what happened there?\u201d<\/p>\n
McFarlane replied: \u201cIt was the weekend for it, wasn\u2019t it? Quirky speech from Craig McRae, thanking everyone and talking about all the players that were having babies … but the weird one was Nick Daicos and talking about the Brownlow Medal and maybe he would win a Brownlow Medal if he (had) more 16-disposal games.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ralph: \u201cSurely the coach knew that \u2014 why would you say that when you know that by the end of the night, he\u2019s going to get rolled?\u201d<\/p>\n
Dual All-Australian Leigh Montagna chimed in: \u201cThat\u2019s what I thought \u2014 the coach knows who won the best and fairest.\u201d<\/p>\n
McFarlane: \u201cIt was an unusual night … it was a great night, but a little bit unusual.\u201d<\/p>\n
