With the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> looking to get their roster set for opening night, the biggest question remaining is what they will do with rookie Easton Cowan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite impressing the coaching staff in training camp and pre-season, the Leafs’ decision-makers are maintaining that no final decision has been made regarding the 20-year-old’s spot on the opening-night roster.<\/p>\n

Cowan was practising as the 13th forward at practice Monday, which suggests his spot to make the lineup for the start of the season is still up in the air.<\/p>\n

Head coach Craig Berube told reporters that Cowan remains in the mix but the team hasn’t made a firm decision on him.<\/p>\n

“Keep attacking it. Keep working hard. Have a good mindset. Be positive. And hopefully play Wednesday,” Berube said about what he told Cowan about his situation. <\/p>\n

The 20-year-old has faced tough competition to crack the Leafs’ bottom-six forward group with veterans like David Kampf<\/a> and Michael Pezzetta<\/a> getting waived, while Nick Robertson’s spot has also been in question.<\/p>\n

Following Scott Laughton<\/a>‘s injury, Berube was forced to shuffle the lineup with Nicolas Roy being pushed down to the fourth line with Max Domi<\/a> moving back to third-line centre, and Robertson joining the third line.<\/p>\n
