Adam Reynolds<\/a> is convinced people will continue to “find a way” to question him, even as a winner of two NRL<\/a> premierships \u2014 but the veteran halfback has a message for his knockers: “F–k you.”<\/p>\n

It was noted by one reporter in a chat with Reynolds in the Broncos<\/a>‘ XXXX Gold-soaked sheds on Sunday night that people had questioned the diminutive general right throughout his NRL career.<\/p>\n

In about the same amount of time it takes to crack open a can of XXXX Gold, Reynolds was on the attack.<\/p>\n

“They’ll still question me,” said the 35-year-old Broncos halfback, lifting his gaze from his boots to eye level.<\/p>\n

“It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t faze me.<\/p>\n

“Everyone’s got opinions, everyone can say what they want to say.<\/p>\n

“I believe in my own abilities, I believe in myself, I believe in my teammates, and that’s all that really matters.”<\/p>\n

But Reynolds had again climbed the mountain, it was noted, and no one can take that away from him.<\/p>\n

“Ergh, they’ll still find a way to,” he said.<\/p>\n

“But none of that bothers me. I mean, I know what I’ve achieved in my life, I know what I’ve achieved in my career. I’m proud of myself, I’m proud of my career I’ve had, and hopefully there’s another chapter to come.”<\/p>\n

Why does he feel people will still question him?<\/p>\n

“They always have,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Doesn’t matter.”<\/p>\n

Does it drive him?<\/p>\n

“Yeah, it does,” he said, before really get some stuff of his chest, and telling his critics where to go.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been questioned my whole life,” Reynolds said.<\/p>\n

“[I’m a] kid from Redfern. Firstly, no one’s supposed to make it out of Redfern, and a lot of people get looked [at] differently because they’re from there.<\/p>\n

“Going into junior rep footy, you’re too small, you’re not fast enough. Same as when you come into first grade, and then you’ve got your knockers and your critics that at every opportunity wanna knock you and put you down.<\/p>\n

“I use that a bit as motivation to say, ‘F–k you, I can keep going’.<\/p>\n

“And I will keep going, I will keep fighting, I will keep trying to get better.<\/p>\n

“It’s my teammates that I want the success for. It’s not about me; it’s about them having memories and moments in their career that they can look back at and be proud of.”<\/p>\n

Reynolds’ grand final triumph with Brisbane<\/a> came 11 years after his premiership win with South Sydney.<\/p>\n

He was 24 and in his third season of NRL footy when he piloted the Rabbitohs to premiership glory. He had a slit at the front of his hair and Luke Keary was his partner in the halves.<\/p>\n

He’s played in four NRL grand finals across the course of his 309-game career, winning one and losing one with both the Rabbitohs and Broncos.<\/p>\n

“I know the feeling on the other side, so that’s where the emotions came from,” Reynolds said, reflecting on the moment the full-time siren sounded on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

“It’s hard to pick yourself back up off the deck and get going again, but there’s always fight in this team, there’s always motivation to get back up and keep going, and I’m glad I did because these moments are all worth the troubles and the failures.”<\/p>\n

Reynolds watched the final 31 minutes of Sunday night’s NRL decider from the sideline, having torn a calf while chasing a kick.<\/p>\n

He watched the final eight minutes of the game alongside Brisbane’s other 35-year-old playmaker, Ben Hunt, who had come wobbling from the field after a nasty head knock.<\/p>\n

“It was like a nursing home out there!” Reynolds laughed.<\/p>\n

Hunt, of course, completed a remarkable redemption arc on Sunday night, exorcising his grand final demons 10 years after dropping the ball off the kick-off at the start of golden point.<\/p>\n

Johnathan Thurston, memorably, sunk a field goal in the ensuing set of six to secure North Queensland’s first NRL premiership.<\/p>\n

After 355 NRL games, including two grand finals and one cruel twist of fate on the biggest stage, Hunt has a premiership ring.<\/p>\n

“He’s a big part of the club,” Reynolds said.<\/p>\n

“He’s part of the furniture here, he’s a legend of the club, and he’s done some amazing things. He deserved that \u2014 he deserved to be a winner at this club, and he deserved to add to the legacy. I was just so happy for him to win a ring.<\/p>\n

“From afar, watching him leave the club [to join the Dragons after the 2017 season], it just didn’t feel right to me.<\/p>\n

“We were riding the emotions at the end of the game.<\/p>\n
