Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph revealed the AFL is in favour of the Suns giving Ugle-Hagan a lifeline.<\/p>\n

Ralph said it would be \u201ceffectively a new two-year deal\u201d for Ugle-Hagan, who\u2019s still contracted at Whitten Oval for 2026 on big money.<\/p>\n
However Saints great Leigh Montagna questioned if it was a risk worth taking for the Suns, who\u2019s also locked on to landing Melbourne star Christian Petracca, after Gold Coast has made such great inroads under Hardwick.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought a club would take a risk (on Ugle-Hagan). For me it\u2019s interesting it\u2019s the Gold Coast Suns, I don\u2019t know if they\u2019re the club that need to take the risk,\u201d Montagna said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the amount of young players they\u2019ve got, the trajectory they\u2019re on, the culture they\u2019ve built with this playing group.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know it\u2019s Damien Hardwick\u2019s way and he has some experience and he\u2019s prepared to take the punt.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just a risky one for me for Gold Coast, whereas Christian Petracca makes complete sense.<\/p>\n

If Gold Coast can make it work, however, Montagna believes Hardwick\u2019s side, coming off its first finals appearance, could be a force.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe spoke about getting Petracca would make them frightening. Imagine if they got the best out of Jamarra. Good luck to the rest of the competition trying to stop them,\u201d the St Kilda legend added.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd they\u2019ve got young talent that weren\u2019t even getting a game this year, Jake Rogers, Leo Lombard and Jed Walter weren\u2019t in the side in the back-end of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dogs football boss Sam Power said the club had Ugle-Hagan\u2019s best interests at heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think everyone wants the best for Jamarra \u2026 all through this year he has clearly had his challenges \u2026I am really proud of the club and how the club has dealt with it, the club had prioritised him and his wellbeing through that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
