Steele could be a ‘steal’ | 03:06

“I’d prefer it to go somewhere into Round 5 or 6 into the season,” he said.

“That’s my personal view, because you see all the time guys get injured throughout pre-season.

“You could potentially make changes or if a ruck goes down in March and you’re sort of stuck until mid-season sometimes.

The Magpies aren’t set to be the most active in this year’s trade period — but it won’t stop Leppitsch from waking up in the middle of the night.

“Going to bed is OK, sometimes you wake in the middle of the night counting points in your head, silly things like that,” he said.

“It’s obviously such a condensed period. Other sports around the world, this will go for months and it’s a much more drawn-out process.

“But you have to get it right given it’s such a small window.”

Collingwood list boss Justin Leppitsch says introducing an in-season trade deadline could be the answer to navigating pre-season…

[9
64,63,689,119468,7803,10133,2105,122699,12112,33693,12098,3465,29963,647,122701,677,122700,122702,85,122697,11236,1133,122698,122696,122188,64414,660
post-194555","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sports","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-australia-and-new-zealand","tag-awards-night","tag-clayton-oliver","tag-collingwood-magpies","tag-getty-images-inc","tag-in-season-trade-deadline","tag-jack-steele","tag-james-wiltshire","tag-josh-dunkley","tag-leigh-montagna","tag-list-boss","tag-melbourne","tag-night-counting-points","tag-oceania","tag-preseason-injuries","tag-respected-list-manager","tag-sports","tag-talent-strategy","tag-trade-news","tag-trade-period","tag-trade-period-deadline","tag-trade-period-system","tag-trade-stalemate","tag-tyler-lewis","tag-victoria
["GET
