A man who allegedly fired up to 50 bullets at random members of the public in Sydney’s inner west has faced court for the first time.<\/p>\n
Croydon Park was sent into lockdown for several hours on Sunday night following reports of an active shooter.<\/p>\n
More than a dozen people were injured including a man who remains in a serious condition after being shot in the neck.<\/p>\n
After an almost two-hour stand-off with tactical officers, the alleged gunman Artemios Mintzas was arrested inside his apartment.<\/p>\n

The 60-year-old has since been charged with a total of 25 offences including 18 counts of shooting with intent to murder.<\/p>\n
Facing Burwood Local Court on Tuesday, Mr Mintzas did not apply for his release on bail.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, two different lawyers each claimed to be Mr Mintzas’s legal representation, leading to a tense exchange between the two.<\/p>\n
Defence lawyer Diana Sabouni initially mentioned the matter, however barrister Dymphna Hawkins stepped in telling the court she had spoken with the accused on Monday.<\/p>\n

Police had to lock down the nearby area for hours before taking Mr Mintzas into custody. (ABC News: Tony Ibrahim\u00a0)<\/p>\n
The hearing was stood over multiple times with a verbal argument erupting just outside the court room.<\/p>\n
Eventually the matter was resolved when Mr Mintzas was called up from the cells and confirmed in person his wish for Ms Hawkins to represent him.<\/p>\n
Mr Mintzas apologised in court for the confusion.<\/p>\n
The 60-year-old was wearing a blue jumper and had multiple scars on his face.<\/p>\n
Outside of court, Ms Hawkins said she needed to see the brief of evidence.<\/p>\n
