DALLAS \u2013 University of Houston Men’s Golf senior Hudson Weibel<\/a> fired a 67 Monday to surge into a tie for sixth with a score of 7-under 137 following the Second Round of the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club on Monday afternoon.
\n\u00a0
\nAs a team, the Cougars posted a score of 7-under 281 in the Second Round and stood in fifth with a 36-hole total lf 13-under 563.
\n\u00a0
\nStarting off No. 1, Weibel quickly moved under par with a birdie on the 596-yard, par-5 second hold and then drained three birdies in a four-hole stretch at Nos. 5-8.
\n\u00a0
\nPlaying in his hometown, he rebounded from a bogey at No. 11 to sink two birdies in a three-hole stretch late in his second nine to finish the day with a 67 and with a two-day score of 137.
\n\u00a0
\nSenior Kevin An<\/a> enjoyed his low round of the season and the team’s low round of the day with a bogey-free 66 and rose 33 places higher into a tie for 16th at 4-under 140.

\nLike Weibel, An made birdie at No. 2 and added a birdie on the 440-yard, par-4 sixth hole to highlights his first nine. After a birdie on the par-5 10th hole, the Riverside, Calif., native sank three birdies in a four-hole stretch at Nos. 14-17.

\nJunior Chi Chun Chen<\/a> was tied for 16th at 140 while junior Grant Doggett<\/a> and sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen<\/a> were tied for 56th at 148. Playing as an individual, freshman Jayk Altic<\/a> was tied for 63rd at 149.

\nSouth Alabama held the team lead at 553 to finish two strokes ahead of Rice. USC stood in third at 556 while host SMU was in fourth at 558. East Tennessee State (566), Furman (567), Baylor (571), UT Rio Grande Valley (575), North Texas (577) and Sam Houston (577) completed the Top-11 leaders.

\nIndividually, Rice’s Lukas Boandl and Louisiana’s Malan Potgieter were tied atop the leaderboard at 132. SMU’s William Sides was in third at 134 while Clark Akers (Furman) and Joshua Hill (South Alabama) were tied for fourth at 135.

\nSouth Alabama teammates Tim Kretschman \u00a0and Hugo Thur and Alex Huang (North Texas) joined Weibel in a tie for sixth at 138.

\nThe Final Round begins with an 8:30 a.m., split-tee start Tuesday.

\nThe Cougars are looking to extend their streak of Top-Two team finishes to start the 2025-26 season.

\nIn its most recent action, Houston posted a score of 19-under 845 for a second-place showing at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club in Houston on Tuesday.

\nEarlier this season, the Cougars used a record-setting day to sweep the team and individual championships at season-opening Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., on Sept. 7-9.

\nIt marked the first time that Houston finished among the Top-Two leaders in each of their first two tournaments to open a season since the 1984-85 NCAA national champion team won its first four events.

\nWeibel captured the individual title at the Argent Financial Classic after holing an eagle from 123 yards out on the first hole of a playoff.
\n\u00a0
\nDoggett posted three straight rounds in the 60s \u2013 including a First-Round 66 \u2013 to capture the first title of his collegiate career with a score of 15-under 201 at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday. The Beach City, Texas, native set tournaments records for low score to par (-15), low 54-hole score (201) and margin of victory (7 strokes).
